On Tuesday 27th October 2015, Chorus Urbanus launched the CD album - LUX,  to celebrate the fortieth anniversary since its foundation way back in 1975. The CD features the sacred music of Dr John Galea, the choir's long-standing director who is currently the Head of the Music Department at the University of Malta.

This album contains 14 tracks that manifest different styles of music and vocal textures such as motets for soloists, duets, vocal quartets, works for a cappella SATB choir and works with organ accompaniment. The CD compilation opens with a controlled improvisation for 35 voices on the word 'Lux', as well as other works used to animate the liturgical cursus.  With these strains, one also finds a work for strings featuring the Sofia Collegium Symphony Orchestra with which the Chorus Urbanus and Maestro John Galea have had several collaborations in the past. As a matter of fact, this is the seventh CD to be issued by the choir.

The evening was compered by well-known TV presenter Amanda Ciappara. The choir's president Architect Edward Scerri delivered a speech to outline the 40th anniversary celebrations and the rationale behind the chosen motto: Celebrating through Philanthropy. The evening also featured the Composer and the Artist in conversation with Mariella Pisani Bencini that provided an interesting insight into the work undertaken to explain the Absolute Light through the Arts.

LUX is a collection of works that were composed over the last 30 years and the compilation was presented during a special launching ceremony with some tracks performed live.

The event was held last Tuesday, in the Tapestry Chamber at the Palace of the Grand Masters in Valletta, under the patronage of the President of Malta, H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. In the words of President itself, this choir "shares not only the incredible talent in singing harmoniously but leads a sense of community spirit both among its members and its musical director. Furthermore the choir is to be commended for the fact that the profit from the CD sales will be forwarded to the Malta Community Chest Fund."

The album cover is the creation of Gozitan artist Austin Camilleri, who was also a choir member in the past. The cover shows a sheet of gold floating on water as it gradually reflects light of sunrise. Camilleri explained that this floating gold leaf symbolizes the richness within each man when he is immersed in the Light that is then reflected within society.
